In a recent Lean Six Sigma project conducted by the 7th Transportation Brigade, the team sought out to analyze the poor performance of the six modular warping tugs. In order to develop improvements to the Army watercraft maintenance processes, the project team used the DMAIC process to cultivate solutions for implementation and control.

After validating the pilot plan, the project improvements not only increased familiarity to the processes, but saw a marked improvement of 40% in average operational readiness. More importantly, it reduced the MCS non-availability time from 48 hours to only 4 hours!

After the successful implementation of the project improvements, both commands will consider future process improvement projects using Lean Six Sigma.
