What is a Green Belt?

A Green Belt is someone who is trained and certified to complete process improvement projects using Lean Six Sigma. They solve problems in processes that result in reduced costs, increased profits and happier customers.

Green Belts are more skilled than Yellow Belts, since Green Belts have an in-depth understanding of Lean Six Sigma are able to complete full process improvement projects using the DMAIC methodology, while Yellow Belts have a high-level understand of Lean Six Sigma and are able to identify and begin eliminating waste.

Green Belts are generally not dedicated 100% to improvement projects but spend at least 20% of their time either participating on or running project teams. They assist Black Belts and Master Black Belts, who oversee Continuous Improvement (also known as Operational Excellence) programs or efforts.
