Lean Six Sigma: Kern County Saves $19 Million & 100,000 Hours of Labor
In 2015, an oil-market crash lead to a $44 million loss in general fund revenue for Kern County of Southern California. They were faced with the challenge of making up the large structural deficit while maintaining the same level of service to their citizens with a dramatically smaller budget.
Kern County believes in continuous improvement and that culture drives great results. Because of this core belief, the Kern County Board of Supervisors initiated a new program, Launch Kern, to apply Lean Six Sigma principles to all county departments for all of their 7,500 employees.
Four years later, Kern County has trained over 1,000 employees who’ve gone onto complete over 185 projects, resulting in over $19 million and 100,000 hours saved. Now, that’s what we call continuous improvement!
