Y=f(x) means that the Project Y is impacted by factors, x’s, within the process and inputs to the process. This semi-equation is helpful as a way of framing root cause analysis. Once the Project Y is selected, the goal is to understand the major factors, x’s, and make changes to those elements to improve the Y.
