Value Stream Maps are high-level maps and Swimlane Maps are more detailed. I have never seen a hybrid of the two, which is not to say there would be no value in that. In general, the Value Stream Map is a macro-level map used for both strategic improvement and performance assessment. The Swimlane is used for assessing performance at a more granular level but both are very helpful to assess the “as-is” state.
